The Minister of Finance, Ofori-Atta has declared today in Ghana, that the National Democratic Congress’ Noise on the E-levy implemented is the major reason why God made the New Patriotic Party the Majority in the Parliament of Ghana.
Finance Minister, Dr. Ken Ofori-Atta has said the party in administration, New Patriotic Party (NPP) has the numbers in Parliament to approve the proposed E-levy in the 2022 budget of Ghana.
What Is E-levy?
Not long ago was when Ghana introduces a 1.75% levy on electronic transactions. The introduction of the e-levy to Ghanaians by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ken Ofori-Atta will incurred a charge of 1.75% on all electronic transactions that will be made within the country.
In Ghana, the proposed levy, which will come into effect on 1 February 2022, is a charge of 1.75% of the value of electronic transactions.
There will be Mobile Money tax in Ghana that will be operating under the e-levy system, inward remittance tax, charges on bank transactions and tax on other electronic transactions in Ghana.
The levy has generated lots of controversies with the Minority vowing to ensure it is rejected or reduced to the barest minimum from 1.75%.
Speaking on Peace FM, Kwami Sefa Kayi, host of the morning show ‘Kokrokoo asked the mister, ‘What if the minority remains adamant on the e-levy?”
He responded “That’s why God gave us [Majority] one more vote than them. They all move to philosophically accept it, that’s a good way to move forward.”
He also noted that the levy remains at 1.75% and not 1.5% as claimed by Mr Afenyo Markin.
