How To Register SIM Card And Link To Ghana Card

The Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation is clamping down on unregistered SIM cards in order to fight the duping of people using the Mobile Money(Momo) fraud also known as SIM Box fraud.

Once the Ghana Card is linked with the phone numbers, it would be easier for the law enforcement agencies to track down criminals and arrest them.

The Ministry of Communication and Digitalisation has given the directive that it would deactivate all unregistered SIM cards in March 2022, so Ghanaians have been given the window of opportunity to register before the deadline hits.

The Ghana Card has been approved as the only identity card that can be used to link the SIM cards to the ID cards and foreigners who come into the country for short stays would have to use their Passport or Travel Document to register a SIM for 30 days period. If they intend to extend the stay, they would have to apply for the Non-Citizen Ghana Card so they can use it for the registration.

The SIM registration is done using the Shortcode *404#. After you dial the shortcode, follow the instructions to provide your necessary details to register the SIM card.

How To Link Ghana Card To SIM card

Below are the step-by-step guide on how to link Ghana Card to SIM Card without any difficulty.

• Dial the short code *404#
• Enter Ghana Card Pin ( Note: Enter letters and figures without hyphens)
• Confirm Ghana Card Pin
• Enter Surname
• Enter First Name(s)
• Enter Date of Birth (Format: DDMMYYYY)
• Select Sex
• Confirm Details
• Submit Details Provided After Confirmation
• Visit your service provider with the unique code to complete the registration process

Note:

1, If successful, you will get a confirmation message with a unique code

2, If unsuccessful because of wrong details, you have 3 attempts to answer security questions

3, You would have to visit the NIA office if you see any error messsage about verification failure.
