On April 14, 1960 in Oxnard, California, Bradley Henry Gerstenfeld was born to Barbara and Alvin. In the Woodland Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, he attended George Ellery Hale Middle School and earned his high school diploma from El Camino Real.
He spent two months at UCLA before quitting to pursue a career in comedy in the 1980s.
At age 23, he made history as the youngest comedian to ever appear on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.
Brad Garrett Professional Career
Prior to his career in comedy, Garrett was best recognized for his appearance on the back cover of ELO’s eighth studio album, Discovery. Early in the 1980s, he began performing stand-up at a number of Los Angeles comedy clubs, including The Improv in Hollywood and The Ice House in Pasadena.
After experiencing significant success with stand-up comedy, Garrett started appearing on TV. He provided the voice of Hulk Hogan for the animated series Hulk Hogan’s Rock ‘n Wrestling from 1985 to 1986, sounding a lot like Rodney Dangerfield.
Additionally, he was put forth for an Emmy nomination in 2003 for Gleason’s Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie. He and his castmates from Raymond won the 2003 Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
He inaugurated Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club in Las Vegas’ Tropicana Resort & Casino in June 2010. He served as one of the narrators for the Candlelight Processional performances at Epcot in December 2010.
In a holiday ad for Apple’s iPhone 7, Garrett played the Frankenstein’s monster in November 2016. Over seven million people have watched the advertisement as of 2017. Garrett provided the voice of Eeyore for the live-action adaptation of the Winnie the Pooh series, Christopher Robin, as well as a brief cameo in Ralph Breaks the Internet.
