Rakim Athelaston Mayers, better known by his stage name ASAP Rocky, is an American rapper, record producer, and record executive. Born in Harlem, he started his musical career as a member of the hip hop group ASAP Mob, from which he took his stage name.

Who is Asap Rocky
On October 3, 1988, Rakim Athelaston Mayers was born in the Harlem neighborhood of Manhattan, a borough of New York City. Barbados is where his father comes from. Erika is his older sister, and he has an older brother who has passed away.
At the age of nine, Mayers relocated to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and began rapping. His older brother, who also sported the Cornrows hairstyle that A$AP Rocky subsequently adopted, taught him how to rap.
Mayers’ father was imprisoned when he was 12 years old, and he spent his teenage years traveling between homeless shelters with his mother and sister. He moved to Midtown Manhattan after spending some time with his mother in a shelter in New York City.
At the age of 13, Mayers’ brother was murdered in Harlem. Rocky was motivated to take rapping more seriously by the death. Mayers was raised idolizing the Harlem-based rap group The Diplomats.
Asap Rocky Career
In 2007, Rocky joined the A$AP Mob group. When he launched his track “Purple Swag” in July 2011, he officially began his career as a rapper. This song quickly turned into a New York City anthem for the streets.
After his single “Peso” leaked online in August 2011, he received play on the prestigious Hot 97 New York radio station within a few weeks. Additionally, he made his mixtape “Live. Love. A$AP,” which earned him the coveted attention from various record labels that he sorely needed.
He released his solo album, “Long Live Asap,” in January 2013. The album not only sold 3 million copies in the United States, but it also peaked at number eight on the Billboard 100.
He made a brief cameo in the comedy-drama “Dope” in 2014. The film was screened at the Sundance Film Festival the following year before being made available in theaters on June 12th.
At.Long.Last.A$AP’, his second album, was made available in May 2015. Rocky had to advance the album’s release date by a week due to an online leak when it was originally scheduled for a few weeks before the actual date.
Rocky released his mixtape “Live. Love. A$AP” on all streaming services in October 2021. Rocky made two appearances on the Japanese DJ Nigo’s album “I Know Nigo!” on March 25, 2022. Rocky is presently dating pop singer Rihanna, with whom he already has a child.
