On May 14, 1969, in Ivanhoe, Victoria, Australia, Catherine Elise Blanchett was born. Her American father, Robert DeWitt Blanchett Jr., a native of Texas and a former Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy, was an advertising executive. Her Australian mother, June, was a real estate developer and teacher. Cate lost her through heart attack when she was only ten.
Cate Blanchett graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), in Sydney, having earlier studied economics and fine arts at the University of Melbourne.
