Temba Bavuma is a South African cricketer who competes internationally. He previously captained the T20I team and is currently the captain of the South African cricket team in Tests and ODI matches. He bats with his right hand and was the first black cricketer from Africa to score a century in a Test match for South Africa and to lead the team.
Born 17 May 1990, Temba Bavuma, a small-framed batsman who attended St. David’s Marist College in northern Johannesburg, was educated in Langa, a town outside of Cape Town, where he was born and raised.

Bavuma’s career
In the 2010–11 campaign, Bavuma made his franchise debut for the Lions. In this debut season of the Supersport Series, he scored 242 runs in 4 games at an average of 60.50, including a total of 124 not out against the Knights that earned him man of the match honors.
Bavuma was the first black cricketer for South Africa to get a Test century on January 5, 2016. In the second Test of the 2015–16 England series, he hit an undefeated 102 at the Cape Town Cricket Ground.
On September 25, 2016, Bavuma played in his first One Day International for South Africa against Ireland and got his first ODI century. Bavuma was the second player for South Africa to achieve a century in their first ODI, and he was voted player of the game for his efforts.
On May 2017, Bavuma got the Award of Excellence at Cricket South Africa’s annual awards ceremony . He was selected in South Africa’s Twenty20 International (T20I) squad in August 2019 for their series against India where he made his T20Idebut on September 18, 2019 for South Africa.
Quinton de Kock’s position as captain of South Africa’s limited over side was replaced by Bavuma on March 4, 2021. He became the first ever black African player to be appointed as the side’s permanent captain after being named South Africa’s regular captain.
