Max Gawn is a professional Australian rules footballer playing for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL).
Born on 30 December 1991 in Australia, Gawn is of New Zealand descent but at a young age resided in Greymouth on New Zealand’s South Island before migrating to Melbourne permanently as a baby. He played for the Ormond Football Club during his junior football career while attending McKinnon Secondary College.
In the 2009 national draft, Gawn was recruited by the Melbourne Football Club with their fifth pick and thirty-fourth overall. With 208 cm, he was the second tallest player in the league at the time of the draft, after only Aaron Sandilands (211 cm). He missed the majority of the 2010 season through ACL injury after undergoing surgery to repair it.
In round eleven’s victory over Essendon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground by a score of 33 points, Max Gawn made his AFL debut. He predominantly played as a forward and finished with eight possessions, ten hitouts, and two behinds. Jim Stynes, an Australian footballer and Melbourne Hall of Famer who won the 1991 Brownlow Medal and wore the number 37 guernsey in his rookie season, gave him the jumper for his debut game.
At the commencement of the 2020 AFL season, Gawn was named Melbourne’s captain. In 2021, he guided the team to its first championship since 1964. Gawn was honored with the following
